Marquise “Hollywood” Brown was hoping to make an immediate impact with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, but it doesn’t look like it’s in the cards for the wide receiver.

According to NFL reporter Jordan Schultz, the Chiefs and the pass catcher have decided the best course of action for him is to undergo surgery to repair his dislocated SC joint, and it’ll take place this coming Monday. Subsequently, the franchise will monitor his rehab progress, and potential for a return, throughout the rest of the season.

“Sources: The #Chiefs are placing WR Marquise “Hollywood” Brown on IR, and he will undergo surgery to repair his dislocated SC joint,” Schultz reported. “After multiple imaging studies, it was determined that, although Hollywood felt better, his injury was not healing correctly. Without corrective surgery, he would risk a more serious long-term injury.

“The surgery is scheduled for Monday with Dr. Peter Millett in Vail, CO, and the Chiefs will monitor his rehab progress throughout the season.”

Brown, 27, has been sidelined after originally suffering the injury in the preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The injury, similar to the one then Chiefs wideout Tyreek Hill sustained in 2019, forced him to spend the night in the hospital before his discharge the following day.

The injury was expected to knock Brown out of action for 4-6 weeks, but it seems like the timeline could be longer than originally anticipated.

Continuing, Brown signed a one-year, $7 million deal with the Chiefs this offseason. Once healthy, he will be a favored target of quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The 25th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma, Brown spent the first three seasons of his career with the Ravens. After recording his first 1,000-yard receiving season in 2021, Baltimore traded him to the Arizona Cardinals.

In two seasons in Arizona, he hauled in 118 receptions for 1,283 yards and seven touchdowns in 26 games. He missed time in both of his seasons with the Cardinals dealing with foot and heel injuries.

In his absence, Kansas City will lean on Rashee RiceXavier WorthyJustin WatsonJuJu Smith-SchusterSkyy Moore and Mecole Hardman at the receiver position. Worthy in particular had a breakout game in Week 1, catching two touchdowns during his NFL debut.
