Hollywood Brown returns to Kansas City after leaving Jacksonville hospital, status for Chiefs opener uncertain

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown may not play in the team’s preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Brown’s status for the game remains “uncertain” after being discharged from a Jacksonville-area hospital on Sunday morning. Brown was hospitalized after suffering a dislocation of the sternoclavicular shoulder joint in the preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Brown suffered the injury during the first play of the game when he caught an 11-yard pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He landed on his left shoulder and then headed to the sideline to get the shoulder examined.

“I think he’ll miss some time, [but] we’ll just see where it’s at,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters after the game, per the team’s official website. “We’re going through it right now, and we’ll know more later on.”

Brown, 27, signed a one-year contract with the Chiefs after spending the last two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. He was originally selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft and had his best season in 2019, catching 91 passes for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns.

Patrick Mahomes predicts ‘great season’ for Hollywood Brown

Back in June, Mahomes praised Brown for the work he put in during the offseason. “He’s [Brown] done a great job,” Mahomes said, per Chiefs Wire. “It’s hard to learn this offense and I feel like he’s done a great job picking it up very fast. Obviously, you see the ability – I mean obviously I don’t know how he’s here in our place because of how talented he is.”

Mahomes added: “I can just see that it’s going to be a great season for him. “[Brown will] just take pressure off of other guys and I think it’s going to help get [Travis Kelce] open, help get Rashee open, going to help get all these guys open. You’re going to have that speed threat that can run routes and do all those different things so I’m very excited to get him out there in the regular season.”

Brown, who played college football at Oklahoma, is part of a Chiefs wide reciever group that includes Rashee Rice, Sky Moore, Mecole Hardman, Kardarius Toney, Justin Watson Justyn Ross and rookie Xavier Worthy. The Chiefs have won the last two Super Bowls and looking to to be the first team since the Green Bay Packers in the 1960s to win three consecutive championships.
