Homestead-Miami Speedway just gave an update on the NASCAR schedule for this weekend as the city of Homestead battles grass fires. The racetrack said there are no changes to NASCAR’s plans and everything will happen as scheduled.

“Over the past few days, Homestead-Miami Speedway has worked closely with the Florida Forest Service, U.S. Forest Service, local fire departments and local officials to monitor the brush fire situation in the surrounding areas,” Homestead-Miami Speedway said in a statement. “At this time, there are no changes to the schedule or activities planned for this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and if conditions change, will provide updates as needed.   While the brush fire is in the vicinity of the track, thanks to the efforts of responding fire personnel, the brush fire does not currently pose a threat to HMS or any other structures in the area.   Due to the smoke and changing wind patterns, there may be areas that are experiencing low air quality today and individuals are advised to follow the recommendations of local officials if they are in those areas of concern.”

City of Homestead shares update on NASCAR’s schedule

What Homestead-Miami Speedway had to say about NASCAR’s schedule is what the city of Homestead said on Thursday morning. “Grass Fire Update: The City of Homestead & emergency teams are monitoring the fire,” the city wrote on X/Twitter. “US 1 may close intermittently; Card Sound Rd remains closed. Power outages possible due to damage. Fire is 20% contained. NASCAR events remain on schedule. Stay updated.”

ABC News reported that the fires have burned 22,00 acres spreading from Homestead to Daytona Beach, Florida. The fires have been caused by windy and dry conditions as well as low humidity.

Homestead share another update on Thursday evening. “Emergency teams continue monitoring the fire. Health: Limit outdoor exposure, keep windows closed,” the city said. “Traffic: US 1 closing intermittently, Card Sound Road closed. Power: Repairs underway. Safety: Fire 30% contained. NASCAR: Events remain on schedule.

NASCAR is scheduled to begin racing at Homestead on Friday with the Truck series race. On Saturday, the Xfinity Series drivers will compete and the Cup Series race is set to happen on Sunday.
