BYU could certainly use a victory. It’s been a painful two weeks for the program, as they went from being College Football Playoff hopefuls to no longer having a guaranteed spot in the Big 12 Championship.
Most recently, BYU suffered a 28-23 loss to No. 21 Arizona State. In the loss, BYU’s defense couldn’t find stops, allowing Arizona State to rattle off 413 total yards of offense.
Sun Devils running back Cam Skattebo was particularly devastating to BYU’s defensive efforts. The senior RB tallied 147 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries. Of course, BYU’s defense wasn’t solely responsible for the loss.

BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff threw two interceptions in the defeat compared to just one touchdown. Additionally, BYU struggled to find a rhythm in the ground game, with no player rushing for more than 50 yards.
Alas, BYU isn’t the only team coming off back-to-back losses. On Saturday, Houston suffered its second-straight defeat, falling 20-10 to Baylor. With the loss, Houston’s record fell to 4-7 on the season and 3-5 in conference play.
Houston’s offense was sloppy in the loss to Baylor, committing four total turnovers. Houston quarterback Zeon Chriss was responsible for most of the turnovers, throwing three interceptions against the Bears while failing to find a TD.
Houston’s offense amassed just 239 yards total yards of offense in the loss. While Houston is no longer bowl eligible this season, head coach Willie Fritz isn’t throwing in the towel.
“I know you’ve heard me say it 50 times, but we have to play well in all three phrases to win ballgames this year,” Fritz said. “We’re going to get it fixed.”
