Houston linebacker David Ugwoegbu officially declared for the 2024 NFL Draft, he announced on his Twitter page on Sunday evening. Before transferring to Houston for his final season of college football, he spent the first four years with the Oklahoma Sooners.

“What is impossible with man is possible with God. Luke 18:27. First of all, I give thanks to God for his many blessings I know it is by his grace that I’ve made it this far. To my mom and family, thank you for your countless sacrifices and support you never failed to believe and have confidence in my abilities on and off the field. I will continue to pour my heart out into this process as I know that is your hope for me,” he wrote in his statement.

“To the University of Oklahoma…Thank you Coach Riley and staff for believing in me and giving me opportunities to make a name for myself…to Coach Venables and staff you guys came in and completely changed my perspective on many things for the better. You expanded my football knowledge and raised my level of play immensely, leaving you guys was extremely hard but I am forever grateful for the time we had together.”

“To the University of Houston…thank you for accepting me into your locker room and putting me in a position of leadership. It was a wonderful experience starting a new journey being able to play my last year of college ball in my hometown in front of family.”

“A man’s heart plans his way, but the lord establishes his path. Proverbs 16:9. I pray that the plans for my life continue to align with your will for me…with that being said I am grateful beyond measure to announce my decision to enter THE NFL DRAFT.”

He wrapped up his college football career with 250 total tackles, seven sacks, one forced fumble, and one interception.

Players will have the opportunity to solidify their draft stock at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, to be held in Indianapolis, Indiana from February 26 through March 4.

The three-day event will be broadcasted throughout the weekend on ESPN and NFL Network.

To be eligible for the NFL Draft, players must be at least three years removed from their final year of high school while having used up their collegiate eligibility. Underclassmen are able to request league approval to become eligible for the draft, as are players who have graduated prior to using up all of their collegiate eligibility.

Last season, 69 players were granted special eligibility for the 2023 NFL Draft. 13 underclassmen who had completed their college degrees were also deemed eligible to be selected.

The deadline to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft is on January 15. NFL teams will receive a full list of eligible players in the class on January 19.
