More than a week before the 2022 NBA Draft, the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks made a huge trade.
The Rockets are sending Christian Wood to the Mavericks in exchange for a huge package, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Dallas is set to send Boban Marjanovic, Trey Burke, Marquese Chriss, Sterling Brown and the No. 26 pick in this year’s draft to Houston as part of the deal.
Wood has been a force for Houston the last two years and had a big year in 2021-22. He averaged 17.9 points and a career-high 10.1 rebounds for the Rockets, who went 20-62 and have the No. 3 overall pick in the draft, as well. A former undrafted free agent, he started his career with the Philadelphia 76ers before playing for the Charlotte Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks and New Orleans Pelicans. He had a big year with the Detroit Pistons in 2019-20 before heading to Houston. Now, he’s on his way to Dallas to join forces with Luka Doncic.

Burke, who starred at Michigan from 2011 to 2013, just wrapped up his eighth year in the NBA. The former No. 9 overall pick averaged 5.1 points per game in 42 appearances for the Mavericks this season. In two seasons at Michigan, he averaged 16.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game for the Wolverines before going to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2013 NBA Draft. He was also the consensus National Player of the Year as a sophomore and helped the Wolverines advance to the national championship, where they fell to Louisville 82-76.
Out of high school, Burke was a four-star recruit and the No. 50 prospect in the nation from the Class of 2011, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
