Houston Texans waive former Penn State star DaeSean Hamilton

Getting lucky with injuries is a part of any long-lasting career in the National Football League. That’s not always an easy thing to accomplish. Unfortunately for former Penn State star receiver DaeSean Hamilton, luck has not been on his side on the injury front. He has a history of knee issues and suffered a non-contact knee injury (right knee) on Tuesday with the Houston Texans, as reported by Matt Galatzan of Texans Daily. As a result, the Texans decided to waive him on Wednesday, and if he clears waivers, he will revert back to injured reserve, per Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network.

There is some good news for Hamilton, while the most recent knee injury will require surgery, is that he did not tear his ACL and doctors expect him to recover completely by the start of the 2022-2023 NFL season. On May 14, 2021, he suffered a torn ACL when he was with the Denver Broncos away from the team facility.

The Broncos were trying to trade Hamilton before he suffered the torn ACL, but following the injury the trade fell through. During his three years with the Broncos, Hamilton snagged 81 catches for 833 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

While suiting up for the Nittany Lions, Hamilton wrapped up his career as Penn State’s all-time receptions leader (214). Once he hung up his cleats there, he ranked second on the school’s all-time receiving yardage list (2,842), trailing only former Nittany Lion great Bobby Engram (3,026 receiving yards) for the top spot. Hamilton became just one of 16 players in the Penn State program with 100-plus career receptions. According to the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2013 recruiting class, Hamilton was ranked as the No. 41 wide receiver in America and rated as a four-star prospect.
