Stefon Diggs injury update: DeMeco Ryans confirms Texans WR suffered torn ACL

The troublesome prognosis surrounding Houston Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs‘ injury on Sunday has been made official. Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed Tuesday that Diggs has suffered a torn ACL according to NFL insider Aaron Wilson.
Diggs left Sunday’s matchup against the Indianapolis Colts in the third quarter following a non-contact injury. He led the Texans with five catches for 81 yards before grabbing at his right knee after running a route, falling to the ground, and heading to the locker room under his own power.
The injury puts an end to Diggs’ first season with the Houston Texans after being traded to the team in April following four seasons with the Buffalo Bills. Catching a team-leading 47 passes for 496 yards and three touchdowns in his eight games for the Texans this season.
“Love everything about Stef and what he brought to our team and we’re just praying for him to get back healthy and strong,” Ryans said on Tuesday.

The four-time Pro Bowl wideout is currently on an expiring contract that makes him a free agent this offseason. An injury that comes fresh on the heels of Diggs seeing an increased role in Houston’s passing game after the team’s top wideout Nico Collins was placed on the IR. Leading the NFL with 567 receiving yards before suffering from a hamstring injury in Week 5.
“You try to think positively about it, but there’s not a bunch of positive thoughts,” Texans quarterback CJ Stroud said following the Diggs news. “He worked extremely hard, I think he was having one of the best times he’s ever had on a team, at least that’s what he told us. So I just feel for him and praying for him and just hoping he keeps his head up high and he’ll bounce back even stronger.”
The Texans will have to rely on other pass catchers to step up moving forward as they visit the New York Jets this Thursday on a short week.
