Houston Texans release update on wide receiver Tank Dell after being shot during nightclub mass shooting
The Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson reports Sunday that Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell was shot on Saturday night in a Florida nightclub. Caught in the crossfire of a multi-person altercation he was not involved in.
Dell was a victim and innocent bystander in the mass shooting, sustaining minor wounds before being released from the hospital on Sunday. He’s expected to make a full recovery.
The Houston Texans released a statement regarding Dell and the shooting that can be seen below.
“We have been made aware that Tank Dell was a victim of a shooting in Sanford, Fla. last night,” the statement read. “He sustained a minor wound but has been released from the hospital and he is in good spirits. We are in contact with him and his family and will provide more updates when appropriate but we ask that you please respect his privacy at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in the incident.”
Dell is a Florida native, visiting his home state during the offseason before a verbal altercation escalated at Cabana Live, an event venue and restaurant located in Sanford, Florida. Where he was one of 10 victims who suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound outside of the establishment during a private event according to News 6 Orlando.
Dell recently made a full and speedy recovery following a season-ending injury sustained last year in his rookie season with the Texans. Suffering a broken fibula in Week 13 versus the Denver Broncos after posting an impressive 47 receptions for 709 yards and seven touchdowns in 11 games for his first NFL season.

The Texans selected Dell with the No. 69 overall pick in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Houston. Transferring to the Cougars after spending time at Alabama A&M and Independence Community College before recording 199 catches for 2,727 yards and 29 touchdowns in his final two seasons in H-Town. Leading the nation in receiving yards and touchdowns his senior year.
Hopefully, Dell can bounce back with yet another speedy recovery after breaking the Texans’ franchise rookie record for touchdown receptions and rookie single-game receiving yards.
“Tank is back and he’s starting to get in with our guys here with the offseason programs,” Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said. “So, I’m excited to have Tank back. That was a devastating loss for us last year, losing him. He’s such a dynamic player for us, such an inspiration for myself, a lot of our team. So, I’m excited to see Tank back working with our guys, and excited to see him make that same jump I talked about from year one to year two.”
