No. 1 South Carolina looks to remain undefeated on Sunday against No. 8 LSU during the SEC Tournament championship game after Saturday’s buzzer-beating semifinal victory over Tennessee.
These two teams met earlier in the season, seeing the Gamecocks come away with a 76-70 victory over LSU in Baton Rouge — one of the Tigers’ four losses this season coming off their 2023 national championship run. Now, LSU has a chance for revenge and to end South Carolina’s perfect season on the SEC’s biggest stage.

While the Gamecocks are heavy favorites as the undefeated No. 1 seed in the conference tournament, the Tigers are looking to plat spoiler on Sunday. If a massive upset were to occur, a $10 bet on the Tigers would pay-out $47. The same amount on the Gamecocks would amount in $1.18 of profit.
South Carolina has won three of the last four SEC Tournament championships under head coach Dawn Staley — but that doesn’t explain the big picture. Since 2015, the Gamecocks have claimed seven of nine opportunities to win the tournament.
For LSU, the SEC Tournament title hasn’t run through Baton Rouge since 2003. A four-season span from 2005 through 2008 saw the Tigers finish as the tournament’s runner-ups in each season. They haven’t been back to the finals since 2012 — and will look to make the most of that opportunity against a team that has been unbeatable to this point in the season.
