The ACC Tournament will tip off tonight from the nation’s capital with three matchups to open the bracket. That includes the third and final one between Miami (15-16, 6-14), the No. 14 seed, and Boston College (17-14, 8-12) as the No. 11 seed.

For Miami, their season has completely fallen apart and unraveled in conference play, especially over the last month. After an 11-2 start, the Hurricanes have gone just 4-14 since January 6th, including a current streak of losing nine straight, with two of those coming to Boston College, to end the regular season. That skid and having to play on the opening night of the league tournament was not the plan for a team that was in the Final Four last year and spent early parts of this season in the Top-25 and Top-10.

As for the Eagles, they’ve had their best finish overall from three seasons under Earl Grant. They started well at 10-4 and then finished just a few games under .500 over the final two months of the regular season. Still, two of those wins in that span to end the year came against the ‘Canes. One was by eight in Chestnut Hill and the other was by 10 after a second-half rally in Coral Gables.

Odds for Miami vs. Boston College

Miami is currently a 2.5-point favorite in tonight’s game at odds of -106 per FanDuel. That’s a tight line, though, with the Hurricanes sitting at -134 and the Eagles at +112 on the moneyline.

As for the over/under, the total for the matchup is at 147.5. For reference, these two teams scored 162 points and 124 points, good for an average of 143, in their two regular-season matchups that occurred within the past month.

Final score predictions for Miami vs. Boston College

BPI Predicted winner: Miami
BPI Predicted point differential: 0.9
BPI Win probability (for Miami): 53.4%
BPI Matchup Quality: 82.5

ESPN’s Basketball Power Index is leaning toward Miami as the winner of this contest, even if it’s a close prediction with less than a point in differential. The probability sees it as a tight one too at barely over 50% with a percentage of 53.4%.

However, for a late-night game in the ACC Tournament, BPI is high on this as far as a standalone game. Matchup Quality has it as the second-best game of the night. It’s behind only the championship in the West Coast Conference between Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s.

KenPom Predicted final score: Boston College 76, Miami 75
KenPom Win probability (for Boston College): 50%

KenPom is the first of the tools to go with Boston College as its selection for this evening. With that said, it’s just as much of a toss-up for them too with them having the Eagles as a one-point winner in a 50-50 game in percentage.

That slim margin from KenPom, along with BPI and Vegas, may make this a difficult matchup to call but could also make it a great game on the opening night in Capital One Arena.

While the start time is approximate, it should be around then this evening when Miami and Boston College take the floor to try to extend their seasons. The winner will then move on for a date with Clemson tomorrow night in an even later matchup as the last of four games on Wednesday.
