Although plenty has changed for South Carolina since last year’s Final Four loss, there’s one constant: winning. The Gamecocks bring a perfect 37-0 record into the national championship with an entirely different staring lineup from last year’s run. The centerpiece is Kamilla Cardoso, widely projected as a top-five pick in this month’s WNBA Draft, but depth is key to South Carolina’s success with so many contributors.
For Iowa, though, the Hawkeyes still have Clark. The NCAA’s all-time leading scorer is again the centerpiece of the offense, and her 41 points against the Gamecocks in last year’s Final Four was crucial to setting up the national title game matchup against LSU.
Last year, it was Iowa that got the better of South Carolina in a 77-73 thriller in Dallas. The Gamecocks will try to flip the script this time around, even as both teams bring big momentum into the rematch. Viewership is sure to be high given the record numbers this year’s tournament is turning in, and it could be another banner day for women’s basketball.
