Report: Philadelphia Eagles waive Ian Book
The Philadelphia Eagles have waived quarterback Ian Book, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Saturday. Book spent the 2022 season with the team after starting his career with the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints drafted Book in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame, but he only appeared in one game with the team. He completed 12 of 20 passes for 135 yards and threw two interceptions that day — his lone NFL start.
The Saints waived Book ahead of the 2022 season, and that’s when the Eagles claimed him. He didn’t appear in a regular season game for Philadelphia.
In two preseason games this year, Book threw for 91 yards on 12 of 19 passing. He also took six carries for 31 yards. He saw most of his action in the finale against the Indianapolis Colts on Friday when he went 11 for 15 for 80 yards in the 27-13 loss.
Ian Book played five years at Notre Dame from 2016-20 and took over the starting quarterback job during the 2018 season. His biggest season came in 2019 when he threw for 3,034 yards and 34 touchdowns to help the Fighting Irish to an 11-2 record. As a senior in 2020, Book threw for 2,830 yards and 15 touchdowns before heading to the NFL.
The Eagles have made multiple roster moves over the last week
Roster cuts are coming across the NFL, and the Eagles are starting theirs after wrapping up the preseason Friday night. Last week, Philadelphia announced the decision to move on from multiple players while also signing defensive tackle Robert Cooper and three others.
The Eagles released cornerback Greedy Williams and punter Ty Zentner. Williams — a former LSU standout — was signed by the Eagles this offseason after he spent four years with the Cleveland Browns.

In addition to signing Cooper, the Eagles also brought in defensive tackle Marvin Wilson, defensive tackle Caleb Sanders, linebacker Tyreek Maddox-Williams and linebacker Quinton Bell.
Philadelphia also announced the decisions to waive wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland, defensive back Noah Elliss and cornerback Zech McPherson with injury designations.
By adding Wilson, the Eagles added another former Florida State standout. He played for the Seminoles from 2017-20, meaning he and Cooper played together for three years. During his time in Tallahassee, Wilson totaled 109 tackles, 15.0 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks over four years.
After going undrafted in 2021, Wilson signed with the Browns before spending time on and off the Eagles’ practice squad the last few years.
Philadelphia is coming off its second preseason game earlier this week in which they tied with the Browns 18-18. The Eagles will wrap up the preseason Aug. 24 against the Indianapolis Colts before starting the regular season Sept. 10 against the New England Patriots.
