The start of an NFL training camp is just around the corner, and fans of the Dallas Cowboys had some concerns after an image surfaced of star quarterback Dak Prescott in a walking boot. Since the photo surfaced, plenty have wondered about his status and whether or not this could impact his availability for training camp.
On Monday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport provided an update on Prescott’s injury status and how long he is expected to be out. But first, Rapoport provided some insight into the Cowboys’ quarterback injury.
“Here’s my understanding of the situation: on the same foot, the same ankle, essentially Dak Prescott very famously injured a couple of years ago, he suffered a very, very mild foot sprain,” said Rapoport. “So mild that about a week or so later, he was out of the walking boot. Nothing, as far as I can understand that will prevent his participation in training camp; nothing that will alter the progress that he is making toward being 100% out in the field when training camp begins. It is all good.
According to the NFL insider, Cowboys fans have little to nothing to fear. But to further ease the anxiety surrounding Prescott’s being in a walking boot, Rapoport highlighted its significance for all players.

“The fact that he was in a boot doesn’t necessarily mean anything bad. Walking boots are structural,” continued Rapoport. “They are protective. It’s like, you see plenty of times guys players leave the stadium with a walking boot, and everyone’s like, ‘Oh no.’ Sometimes, it’s just to make sure that he can walk without a limp. It is gonna be OK and as Dak Prescott himself showed us, the fact that he’s out of the walking boot already; it’s probably a good sign.”
The Cowboys training camp is set to begin July 25 and run all the way through August 21 from Oxnard, CA. That puts the start of camp just over two weeks away. So, if there are any additional concerns about the health and status of Prescott and his ankle, there are still a few more weeks for him to rest up and get prepared for Dallas preparation for the 2024-25 season as a team looks to capture its first Super Bowl in nearly 30 years.
