From everything NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is hearing, Aaron Rodgers is more likely to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers than he’s not. But still, nothing is confirmed and it’s all speculation at this point.

Barring a late change, it seems like Rodgers will decide on the Steelers or retirement. Based on owner Art Rooney’s most recent comments, a decision is coming soon.

Heck, even Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said the Steelers feel good about their plan regarding quarterback, whatever that means. Rapoport provided the latest on Monday, post-NFL Draft.

“From Art Rooney, it sounds like he was like, I think we’re getting closer to a decision, we are confident that Rogers is coming, I believe was the way he phrased it,” Rapoport said on The Pat McAfee Show. “They think Rodgers is coming. I think Roger is gonna be (going there) … I think everyone in the world thinks that (it will happen) … The only time I’ve ever thought that maybe he might not be coming was on your show. When you were like, sort of, you were sort of like, well, obviously you’re gonna play. He was like, hey, you know retirement’s a possibility and I was like okay.”

The Steelers have Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson on the roster, in addition to sixth-round pick Will Howard. Since Pittsburgh was linked to Shedeur Sanders, but ultimately passed in the draft, the quarterback room is very uncertain.

That’s where Rodgers makes sense, for at least one season. Still, it’s on the future Hall of Fame quarterback to make the decision.

Also on The Pat McAfee Show, the Super Bowl champion quarterback said he has spoken to Steelers head Tomlin multiple times. However, no deal has been signed.

“Listen, this entire time I haven’t felt like I owed somebody any decision at some point,” Rodgers said. “… I’ve been upfront with them about that. If you need to move on, call me, by all means. … There’s been no deadline. And yeah, I’ve talked to Mike (Tomlin) many times.”

Rodgers was then asked if he will play for the Steelers if he decided to return to the NFL. He’s contemplated retirement as well.

“I am trying to be open to everything and not specifically attached to anything when it comes to this decision,” Rodgers explained. “I’m not holding anybody hostage – I really want to emphasize that. … I’m just going through a lot in my personal life that has to take precedence at this point. … At the same time, I want to keep the lines of communication open.”
