Josh Harris, who is set to become the new owner of the Washington Commanders, dipped into ownership of another sport Tuesday.

Harris purchased a minority stake in NASCAR’s Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) — a purchase made through Harris Blitzer Sports Entertainment (HBSE). Per The Athletic, HBSE will have no function in the day-to-day operations of JGR. The efforts will be more geared towards marketing, sales and business.

Harris addressed the purchase on his LinkedIn page — excited to be part of the growth of JGR.

“Today, I am thrilled to share that Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE) and Arctos have made a significant investment in Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR). As part of the partnership, I’m also excited to welcome Joe Gibbs into the HBSE family as a limited partner,” Harris wrote. “Even before we met, Coach Gibbs was a presence in my life—first from afar as a young fan rooting him on as he coached the Washington Commanders to three Super Bowl wins and now, more recently, as a friend and advisor.

“From football to NASCAR, winning runs deep in Coach Gibbs’ blood, and so do family and faith. I look forward to helping further the culture of high performance and strong values that Coach Gibbs has built at JGR and being part of its growth in the future.”

News of Harris’ minority stake in the NASCAR team comes shortly after purchasing the Commanders from the family of Dan Snyder for an expected $6 billion. In addition to the Commanders, Harris also owns the NHL’s New Jersey Devils and the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers.

Josh Harris adds to ownership portfolio

Harris is purchasing stake in one of the top-tier teams on the NASCAR circuit. JGR, founded in 1992, has won five Cup Series championships and six Xfinity Series championships.

Current drivers for the team include Denny Hamlin, Ty Gibbs, Martin Truex Jr., Christopher Bell, Sammy Smith, John Hunter Nemechek, Ryan Truex and William Sawalich.

“Josh Harris, David Blitzer and their entire team have a vision that has delivered winning franchises in basketball, hockey, soccer and youth sports,” Joe Gibbs said in a statement. “Their teams are among the most successful in their leagues in growing audience and sponsorship and their commitment to the communities they work in are unparalleled.  I am excited to join the HBSE family and to have their support in growing Joe Gibbs Racing.”
