Injury update reveals Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth expected to miss Rams game
Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth likely won’t play Sunday against the Rams after aggravating an injury he suffered earlier this month.
Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reported that Freiermuth hurt his hamstring again during Thursday’s practice. He’d been a full participant in Wednesday’s workouts. But by Thursday, the Steelers listed him as limited. Citing unidentified sources, Pelissero also reported that the Steelers tight end also may miss more action that just the Rams game at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
In addition, Pelissero said that Freiermuth had an MRI Friday morning that showed his hamstring was still too tender to play.
The Steelers thought they’d have a healthy roster as they headed to the West Coast this weekend. Six players, including Pat Freiermuth, who’d been out for parts of the season were all back at practice. Now, make that five of six.
Freiermuth strained his hamstring during the Steelers’ loss to the Texans in Houston. He then missed the Ravens game, a win. The team had a bye last Sunday to give all injured players an extra week to heal. However, hamstrings are tricky because if they’re not fully healed, it’s easy to aggravate the injury.

But most of the Steelers injury news is good. The team activated receiver Diontae Johnson (hamstring) and running back Anthony McFarland (knee) off of injured reserve earlier this week. The Steelers listed both players as full participants in practice Wednesday and Thursday. Left tackle Dan Moore also was active in workouts. He and Freiermuth both suffered their injuries in Houston. Rookie Broderick Jones had filled in for Moore.
The Steelers even got back their punter, Pressley Harvin. He’d missed the games against the Texans and Ravens. Pittsbugh signed Brad Wing to replace him. However, the Steelers waived Wing last week.
The Steelers offense has been stagnate this season, which is why losing Freiermuth for more games could impact them. He’s scored two touchdowns and has caught eight passes out of 13 targets.
