Insider calls on NASCAR to change 2025 schedule, make Homestead championship race
After last week’s thriller of a NASCAR race at Homestead-Miami, many are hoping to see the track host the championship finale soon. With the 2025 schedule already out, there is no way it will be next year…unless?
NASCAR has made some strange choices in the past. I highly doubt they just uproot the 2025 schedule, which has Homestead-Miami as a spring NASCAR date, at this point. But what if they did?
Jeff Gluck of The Athletic made his (albeit, futile) case to NASCAR for the championship to be swapped from Phoenix to Homestead in 2025.
“I’d like to make a plea, Jordan,” Gluck said to his cohost on The Teardown. “NASCAR, you just saw this race, you just saw how good it was. I know you’ve announced the schedule for next year, I know Phoenix you’ve already said is the championship race. I know you’ve already taken this race, Homestead, out of the playoffs, and moved it to the spring. But it’s not too late to do the right thing. It’s never too late to do the right thing. If NASCAR came out and said, ‘You know what, we thought more about it. We reconsidered, I know this is crazy since we already announced the schedule. But we’re going to put Homestead as the championship race next year. We’re going to redo things, we’re going to move things around,’ however it is.”
Then again, NASCAR fans don’t like backtracking from the sanctioning body. They usually prefer them to stay as consistent as possible. But for this? Maybe fans would be open to it.
Would NASCAR fans accept Homestead-Miami change?
Okay, I’m underselling it. Fans would likely take any intermediate track over Phoenix for the championship race at this point. If you could promise it wouldn’t be below freezing at Kansas in November, that would make a great championship venue.

However, the time of the year limits NASCAR. A purely outdoor sport, if Mother Nature doesn’t comply, you can’t race, and at the very least, fans won’t come out.
But Miami is always warm. For the most part. So no reason to worry about weather. Gluck believes that fans will be very supportive of the scheduling change.
“How do you think fans would react, Jordan? Do you think they’d be upset?” Gluck continued. “Do you think anybody would go, ‘What a clown show?’ No, everybody would go, ‘Hell yeah, awesome, right decision. Nailed it! Finally!’ … I don’t think, I know the schedules are nailed down, and there’s contractual things and all that stuff. I get that it would be complicated, I get that it would be almost impossible maybe, or you know, a lot of people on the same page. … But to me, this is such a no-brainer. You talk about, things that we gotta chance this in the sport, we gotta change this – this is like the most low-hanging fruit that you could get.”
Would you accept NASCAR changing the 2025 schedule to put Homestead as the finale? After what we saw on Sunday, is there any reason not to support the hypothetical change?
