Iowa at Maryland odds: Early point spread released, How to Watch
On Saturday, Iowa and Maryland will square off at noon ET. The Terrapins will enjoy home-field advantage, hosting the Hawkeyes in SECU Stadium.
Oddsmakers don’t expect Maryland to capitalize on its home turf. According to FanDuel, the Hawkeyes are 5.5-point favorites in the matchup. In no surprise, the oddsmakers don’t expect it to be a high-scoring affair. The over/under for the game is set at 41.5 points.
Iowa has history on its side. The Hawkeyes boast a 3-1 all-time record against Maryland, most recently defeating the Terrapins 51-14 in 2021. Meanwhile, Maryland hasn’t defeated Iowa since 2014.
The Hawkeyes will look to extend their win streak over the Terrapins on Saturday. It’s an opportunity for Iowa to bounce back after it suffered a 20-17 loss to UCLA in Week 11.
In the loss, Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson recorded his lowest offensive output of the season, tallying just 49 rushing yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. Iowa’s passing game wasn’t any more successful.
Hawkeyes quarterback Brendan Sullivan completed 6-of-his-9 pass attempts for 157 yards while throwing two interceptions. Sullivan left the game in the third quarter after suffering an ankle injury.
Backup QB Jackson Stratton also struggled to find a rhythm, only recording three completions on six attempts. After the loss, Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz was brutally honest about his team’s performance.
“Obviously, a disappointing outcome for us,” Ferentz said. “Just got done telling the team basically, you know, one thing about football, you typically get what you deserve, and we certainly didn’t play well enough to expect to win tonight basically in any category.”

Although Iowa was unable to win in its last outing, it’s had an excellent campaign compared to Maryland. The Terrapins are 1-6 in conference play this season and currently on a three-game losing streak.
The Terrapins’ most recent loss came against Rutgers, falling 31-17 to the Scarlet Knights. Despite suffering a loss on Saturday, Maryland’s offense looked more than capable, recording 457 total yards of offense. Maryland head coach Mike Locksley hasn’t lost faith in his team yet.
“We’ve got to try to turn the page on this one pretty quickly,” Locksley said after the loss. “We’ve got Iowa coming in here, with an opportunity again to keep our season alive. … We didn’t get it done today, and we’re running out of chances.”

While neither team still has a chance to reach the College Football Playoff, the showdown is far from inconsequential. If Iowa loses on Saturday, it has a chance to finish the season with a losing record in conference play for the first time since 2017. On the flip side, Maryland has to defeat the Hawkeyes to keep its bowl game hopes alive.
