Iowa Speedway announces a sellout for first-ever NASCAR Cup Series race in 2024
The NASCAR Cup Series added Iowa Speedway to the 2024 schedule and the fans did not disappoint. Already the 24,000-some-odd tickets are sold out. Iowa showed this year for the IndyCar doubleheader that they love racing. They’ve proven it yet again, and it isn’t even January yet.
Before 2024 could even get here, Iowa Speedway sold out of tickets. The Daytona 500 announced a sellout last week. For little Iowa to follow that up just a few days later – that’s special. Even though the size of the two crowds is vastly different, this is great news.
There is a ton of passion for motorsports in the middle of the country. With NASCAR completely leaving the state of Wisconsin for 2024, this is a nice addition to let the fans in that region attend a race.
Instead of announcing that tickets were on sale, Iowa Speedway had to announce a sellout.
The Fastest Short Track on the Planet, and it’s going to have Cup Series racing next year. NASCAR has brought the Xfinity and Truck Series to the short track. However, the big show is coming this year and fans have shown enthusiasm.
Hot take here, folks: Iowa Speedway will be the best short track race of the season. The way it is designed, just under a mile long, but it races a little like an intermediate track. We know there are issues with the short track package, but it might not matter much in Iowa.

Iowa Corn 350 at Iowa Speedway
Let’s talk about the name for the race, too. The Iowa Corn 350, Powered By Ethanol – that’s a classic race name, folks. I love everything about NASCAR going to Iowa, and I’m actually a little glad Montreal fell through, this year at least.
More good news, NASCAR is taking big chances on the short track package. There is a test scheduled in a couple of days that will feature all three manufacturers. Ford and Toyota should have their new-look Next Gen cars on the track.
If NASCAR can do what they say they want to do, take away shifting, take away splitters and things like that, to improve the short track racing then Iowa Speedway will be awesome. No change to power, though.
Regardless, first-ever Cup Series race, I think it will be a great environment and event overall. It sure would be nice to see short track racing return to what it can be. There is going to be a great crowd in Corn Country, stands packed and screaming their heads off at 38 Cup cars zipping around the track.
