Kansas City is fresh off its first playoff appearance in eight seasons, advancing to the ALDS. The hopes of returning to the postseason and maybe even finding even more success are quite high. Having a roster stacked of young talent certainly helps although, one of the franchise’s top talents may not be with the big league club yet.

Jac Caglianone just wrapped up his first season within the Royals organization and is now knocking on the door to be called up. His case was helped on Thursday night in a spring training game against the Chicago Cubs. Caglianone hit a towering home run, leaving even the Cubs broadcast stunned.

Down 0-2 with two outs in the inning, an offspeed pitch was thrown across the plate. You do not want to throw those to Caglianone and he showed why. You can check out the full sequence from Mesa, AZ here.

Following the conclusion of the Cubs game, Caglianone is hitting .444 in nine at-bats with four hits, two of which were home runs. This brought his OPS up to an incredible 1.656 as his stock continues to rise.

Overreacting to spring training can be dangerous. Caglianone likely is not going up against Major League pitching on a consistent basis. But the numbers are working out in his favor early on. Breaking camp with the Royals appears to be unlikely but at some point, the former Florida product has to be on his way to Kansas City.

Jeff Passan hints at MLB debut for Jac Caglianone in 2025

Spring training allows for a few prospects to produce some buzz, especially if they are on the verge of making their Major League debut. Jac Caglianone is no different as he enters his second full season inside the Kansas City Royals organization. The sixth overall pick in 2023 out of Florida, Caglianone may be getting the call-up sooner rather than later.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan was highlighting a few players making noise at spring training, naming Caglianone as one. He then hinted at the power hitter making his debut at some point during the 2025 season. With it, though, comes a potential position change.

“Kansas City has something of a first-base glut with Vinnie Pasquantino and Salvador Perez, so Caglianone will get outfield reps this year and could find himself playing in a corner, accelerating the timeline for his big league debut to perhaps as soon as this summer,” Passan said.
