Jack Jones tweet on athletes with guns goes viral following firearm arrest
Jack Jones is taking heavy criticism on social media after a tweet directed toward NBA star Ja Morant went viral after his arrest for a similar reason.
“@JaMorant dumb.. you letting social media and yo pride ruin yo real money,” Jones wrote. “Put them guns down and run that money up. Make one of yo homies sign up for security or concealed carry if you feel like you need it that bad.. but you the bread winner you gotta start acting like it..”
One month later, Jones, a 2022 fourth-round draft choice by the New England Patriots, was arrested at Boston’s Logan Airport on weapons charges after two handguns were found in his luggage. Jones will be arraigned sometime next week in East Boston District Court, according to ESPN. His bail was set at $50,000.
His charges are as followed, per the Massachusetts State Police: Possession of a concealed weapon in a secure area of the airport, possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and possession of a large-capacity feeding device.
“We have been notified that Jack Jones was arrested at Logan Airport earlier today. We are in the process of gathering more information and will not be commenting further at this time,” a Patriots spokesperson said, via the ESPN report.

As of this report, no suspension or any public disciplinary action has been taken on Jones by the New England Patriots. Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant, who Jones’ tweet is directed toward, has had two gun-related public incidents, did not get arrested in either instance but is serving his second suspension for the matter.
Friday, it was announced that Morant will serve a 25-game suspension to begin the 2023-2024 NBA season. He served an eight-game suspension during the tail end of the 2022-2023 regular season following a flashing of his gun in a Denver nightclub. The second was in the passenger seat of a car. Both were filmed on IG Live.
If Jones gets slapped with a suspenion, it will be his second in less than a year. Jones was also suspended by the Patriots in December of last year due to a suspension for a violation of team rules. Specifics were never released, but it ended the former Arizona State star’s rookie season at 13 games. New England head coach Bill Belichick has said this offseason that Jones was running with the first-team defense, though that might not be the case after his arrest.
He finished his rookie season with 30 tackles, two interceptions, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Jones also logged two starts last season.
