The Urban Meyer era with the Jacksonville Jaguars will be remembered for all of the wrong reasons. Meyer was fired by the Jaguars earlier in the week, and reports continue to come out about that decision from Jacksonville. ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington are reporting that the Jaguars fired Meyer for cause, meaning that they would not intent to pay out the rest of his deal.

“Jacksonville fired its former HC Urban Meyer for cause, with the intention of not paying him the remaining four years of his contract, sources tell Jeff Darlington and me,” Schefter tweeted.

The ESPN report goes on to say that there is not one specific incident that resulted in Meyer being fired by the Jaguars, but it was instead a number of different incidents. The situation will now be up to legal teams to see if an agreement can be made.

“It is not unusual for situations like these — involving negated guarantees — to later be negotiated by the two sides to avoid a prolonged legal situation,” ESPN’s report said. “It will be up to the lawyers involved in any negotiation between the Jaguars and Meyer to try to figure out if they can resolve the situation.”

Meyer was fired by the Jaguars after multiple distractions on and off the field

When the Jaguars decided to fire Meyer, they ended a disastrous experiment that didn’t even span one full season. Meyer has seen success at every level he’s coached at, but he showed that he was not fit to coach in the NFL. His tenure will go down as one of the most shockingly disappointing ones in recent memory.

When Meyer was fired, he reportedly ghosted the organization and walked out of the facility and left the rest of the staff in the dark.

Multiple incidents have occurred throughout the course of the season that eventually led to Meyer being fired by the Jaguars. His continued criticism of the wide receiver room reportedly forced veteran wideout Marvin Jones to storm out of the facility. Jones and Meyer then reportedly had a heated argument.

Meyer also benched starting running back James Robinson, one of the bright spots and focal points of a struggling Jaguars offense after a first quarter fumble against the Los Angeles Rams. He denied benching him, blaming an injury instead. But that was not the case, and the decision led to strong comments from many players, including franchise cornerstone Trevor Lawrence.

Earlier in the season, Meyer was spotted on video at an Ohio bar dancing with a woman that was not his wife. The video resulted in a storm of distractions for the Jaguars organization.

The Jaguars are currently 2-11 on the season, including a current five-game losing streak.
