Jacksonville Jaguars release TE Evan Engram

The Jacksonville Jaguars have released tight end Evan Engram on Thursday, according to Michael DiRocco. This season, he hauled in 47 catches for 365 receiving yards and one touchdown. Last season, he enjoyed a breakout campaign for the Jaguars, hauling in 114 catches for 963 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Engram’s career has been plagued with injuries at times, but when he’s maintained to stay healthy, he’s fulfilled his vast potential. In 2024, he had to deal with a hamstring and a torn labrum. First, he missed four games with a hamstring issue, then in mid-December, it was announced he was shutting things down for the season to have surgery on his torn labrum.
The 30-yard old Engram was set to earn $14.75 million in the final year of his contract in 2025, but none of that money was guaranteed. He will now be an unrestricted free agent, and he’ll have the freedom to sign with any team. It’ll certainly be intriguing to see what team lands him in the offseason. According to Fantasy Points Data, Engram had a separation score of .052 last season, ranking him 10th best among tight ends in the league in that stat.

During his first two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he was productive. The former Ole Miss star hauled in 766 receiving yards in 2022, while also setting a new career high in 2023 with 114 catches. With Christian Kirk, Evan Engram, and Josh Reynolds now out the door for Jacksonville, Brian Thomas, Jr. is now the clear top target for quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the Jaguars’ passing attack.
Thomas quickly showcased himself as one of the best wideouts in the NFL as a rookie. He didn’t disappoint, hauling in 87 catches on 133 targets for 1,282 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. Thomas exploded onto the scene early and it’s clear the Jaguars will once again have big plans for him in the 2025 campaign and beyond.
