Jaguars reveal star wide receiver out for rest of season
The Jacksonville Jaguars will be missing the services of wide receiver D.J. Chark for the remainder of 2021. Today, Jaguars coach Urban Meyer announced the star receiver won’t return from the ankle injury he suffered earlier this season.
“Jaguars’ HC Urban Meyer said WR D.J.Chark will be out the rest of the season with the fractured ankle he recently suffered,” tweeted ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Originally, the Jaguars placed Chark on the injured reserve following due to a fractured ankle suffered against the Cincinnati Bengals. While it was speculated originally Chark could return later this season, it’s evident that it won’t be the case.
With the former LSU star out, Marvin Jones and Laviska Shenault have ascended to the top targets for Trevor Lawrence. Additionally, offensive weapon Jamal Agnew has impressed with the larger role he’s received. Still, Chark’s absence over the rest of the season will be felt.
More on D.J. Chark
In his three games played, Chark accumulated 7 receptions for 154 yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately, he suffered his injury just as Lawrence was finding his groove this season.
The former LSU Tigers wide receiver was selected with the 61st overall pick in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Chark played in three seasons at LSU, although he didn’t have a role on offense until his final two seasons.

In 2016, Chark had 26 receptions for 466 yards and three touchdowns for the Jaguars, adding 12 rushes for 122 yards and two scores for LSU. Chark had 40 receptions for 874 yards and three touchdowns in 2017, adding 12 rushes for 63 yards and a score.
In a miserable season for the Jaguars in 2020, Chark was a bright spot. In 13 games, the talented wide receiver caught 53 passes — racking up 706 yards and five touchdowns in the process.
Moreover, it’s evident that Meyer saw Chark’s potential from the get-go. Earlier this summer, Meyer was seen working one-on-one with Chark — attempting to get the best out of the talented wide receiver.
With his season cut short, we’ll have to wait until next year to see D.J. Chark catching passes for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
