The Jacksonville Jaguars have selected Syracuse running back LeQuint Allen in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He was picked with the No. 236 overall selection in the draft.

Allen quietly established himself as one of the top all-purpose backs in all of college football the past two years, rushing for over 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons. He had a pretty sensational 2024-2025 campaign, racking up over 1,500 all-purpose yards and 20 total touchdowns.

As a receiver, he hauled in 64 catches for 521 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Not only that, one of the more underrated parts of Allen’s game is his pass protection, where he shined. He earned high marks from Pro Football Focus in that department.

His 64 catches and 521 receiving yards were both school records for a running back. Allen also earned numerous accolades, including honorable mention All-ACC at both running back and the all-purpose positions. He brought home honorable mention All-American honors from College Football Network.

Putting himself in rarified air, Allen was one of just two players nationally (the other was Cam Skattebo of Arizona State) with over 1,000 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in the 2024-2025 campaign. The 1,542 all-purpose yards ranks ninth in Syracuse football history for a single season, despite not having any return yards.

He ranked ninth in the country last season in total touchdowns (20th), while also leading the ACC and ranking 14th nationally in rushing touchdowns (16). His 20 total touchdowns ranked as the second-most in a single-season in school history, right behind Walter Reyes (21) in 2003. The 64 catches he had this year led all running backs in the country, ranking as the most catches by a running back at the Division I-A level since the 2021 season.

As a sophomore (2023), he brought home second team All-ACC honors, finishing with seven 100-yard games, the second most in Syracuse football history. He ended the season ranking third in the ACC in rushing yards (1,064) and ninth in rushing touchdowns (9).

As a freshman in 2022, Allen ran for 274 yards on 41 carries (6.6 average), while hauling in 17 catches for 117 yards. He also completed one of his two passing attempts for a 33-yard touchdown as the second team running back. A versatile weapon, Allen became the first Syracuse player to record a rushing touchdown, receiving touchdown, and passing touchdown in the same season since 1989.

As a high school prospect, LeQuint Allen was named the New Jersey Gatorade Football Player of the Year, putting him in a special class. In 2021, he ran for 1,903 rushing yards on 229 carries (8.3 average) and 26 touchdowns.

He also hauled in 17 catches for 277 yards and three touchdowns at Millville (Millville, New Jersey). Also a dynamic defensive back, he tallied 131 tackles to go along with seven tackles for loss, four pass breakups, five interceptions, a sack, and three forced fumbles.

In the 2022 cycle, Allen was tabbed as a three-star prospect and the No. 833 overall player in America, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He was also rated as the No. 60 running back prospect in the country.

What NFL Draft analysts are saying about LeQuint Allen

While Lance Zierlein of NFL.com isn’t glowing in his review of LeQuint Allen’s game, he does cite a number of positives, including him being a “reliable pass catching option with natural hands”. Zierlein is also impressed with his pass protection, something that could allow him to compete for the option of being a third down running back at the next level.

“Allen is a versatile back with adequate size and speed. He’s decisive and gets what he can on most carries but lacks burst, imagination and contact force to create on his own. He’s a reliable pass-catching option with natural hands and an ability to run routes and find yards after the catch,” Zierlein wrote in his report.

“His pass-protection willingness and execution stands out against others in this class. Allen’s ability to cover kicks and return punts adds to his value as a potential Day 3 pick who could compete for a role as a third-down option,” Zierlein finished.
