The Jacksonville Jaguars added some depth at linebacker on Tuesday by signing free agent Tanner Muse, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. Muse, a former third-round draft pick out of Clemson, is gearing up for his fifth season in the league, now with his fifth different team.

After the Raiders drafted him in 2020, the team waived him heading out of training camp in 2021. He spent his rookie season on IR due to a toe injury. The Seattle Seahawks picked Muse up for the practice squad before elevating him to the active roster in December. He posted four tackles in his first six NFL games in 2021.

In 2022, Muse became a key special teams contributor for the Seahawks. He played in all 17 games, recording 16 tackles.

Heading into the 2023 season, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed Muse on a one-year deal for $1.01 million, however, he didn’t make the 53-man roster cut before the regular season. The Los Angeles Chargers benefitted from the Steelers’ decision, however, as they signed him off of waivers before Week 1.

For the Chargers last season, Muse played in 10 games. He recorded one tackle during the 2023 season. When the linebacker’s contract expired, he became a free agent, free to sign with yet another team for his fifth year in the league.

With the Jacksonville Jaguars, Muse will join a defense with stars like Joshua Hines-Allen, Travon Walker and Andre Cisco. On Tuesday, the team also added former third-round defensive end Rasheem Green to the roster. Green hails from USC and spent the 2023 season with the Chicago Bears after a season with the Texans. He was originally drafted by the Seattle Seahawks.

More on the 2024 NFL offseason, free agency

The NFL 2024 calendar year began at 4 p.m. ET on March 13. At that time, contracts running through 2023 officially ran out, making those players free agents. Prior to the beginning of free agency, teams had a chance to designate one franchise or transition tag player, starting on Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. ET and ending on March 5. Beginning March 11 through March 13 teams could enter into a legal negotiation with players who will become unrestricted free agents.

In addition to NFL free agency, the new year also marked the beginning of all trades being made official by the league office. April 19 marked the deadline to sign restricted free agents to offer sheets. On April 24, the deadline for teams to match restricted free agent offers sheets hit.
