Jacoby Brissett dons Tennessee hoodie after losing NC State bet to Jerod Mayo, Joe Milton
New England Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett had to wear Tennessee Volunteers colors during his press conference, thanks to head coach Jerod Mayo and backup quarterback Joe Milton. On Wednesday, Mayo presented a Tennessee hoodie to Brissett so he could wear it while speaking to reporters.
Brissett wore the hoodie for a bet he made with Mayo and Milton. On Saturday, Tennessee defeated NC State 51-10. Mayo and Milton played at Tennessee and Brissett played for the Wolfpack.
During his time at NC State, Brissett threw 46 touchdowns passes and over 5,000 yards in two seasons (2014-2015). His production with the Wolfpack led to the Patriots selecting him in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Brissett played for the Patriots for one season before playing for multiple NFL teams for the next seven seasons. He returned to New England this year, signing a one-year contract.
During training camp, Brissett battled rookie Drake Maye for the starting position. He was named QB 1 on Aug. 29 and led the Patriots to a 16-10 victory in the season opener on Sunday. Brissett finished the day with 121 passing yards and 32 yards rushing yards.

“It was awesome. That’s a great team win right there. In all three phases of the game,” Brissett said after the game, per the Patriots’ official website. “Everybody stepped up when we needed them to step up. To win a game on a road in victory formation … it doesn’t get much better than that. Just proud of the work that we put in obviously, to playing on both sides of the ball, and special teams was executed to what we thought it was going to be. A 60-minute football game. They obviously had a good plan on their side of the ball, but you know today we executed a little bit better.”
Mayo loved what he saw from Brisseett on Sunday. “He made plays with his legs, plays with his arm. He’s a tough guy,” Mayo said. “He took some hits in the game, but he did everything we asked him to do. We came out of here with a victory.”
