Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow were named NFL Offensive Players of the Month for December and January. Gibbs earned the honor for the NFC and Burrow earned it for the AFC.

Gibbs is a big reason the Lions finished the 2024 regular season with a 15-2 record and the top seed in the conference. In the final six games, Gibbs recorded 439 rushing yards, 235 receiving yards, six rushing touchdowns and three receiving touchdowns. He finished the season with a league-leading 16 rushing TDs.

This is the first time in his career that Gibbs has won the Player of the Month award. He is the second Lions running back to earn the honor, with the first being Barry Sanders, who was named Player of the Month six times. Gibbs is the third former Alabama Crimson Tide running back to earn Offensive Player of the Month honors, joining Derrick Henry (three-time winner) and Shaun Alexander (November 2005).

Burrow had an MVP-type 2024 season and his final six games were unmatched. During that stretch, the two-time Pro Bowl QB completed 186 of 244 pass attempts (76.2 percent) for 1,890 yards and 16 touchdowns for a 111.2 passer rating and added 50 rushing yards with one touchdown. He led the Bengals to a 5-1 record in that span.

This is the second time Burrow has earned Player of the Month honors and second this season, winning the award in November. He’s the second Bengals player to win Offensive Player of the Month twice, joining Andy Dalton (October 2013 and October 2015). Burrow is also the third former LSU Tigers player to win multiple Player of the Month, joining Justin Jefferson (two Offensive Player of the Month awards) and Tyrann Mathieu (two Defensive Player of the Month awards).

Gibbs is preparing for the postseason as the Lions earned the top seed in the NFC. Detroit is off this week and will play in the divisional round of the playoffs next weekend against the remaining lowest-seeded team.

Burrow and the Bengals are in offseason mode as the team just missed the playoffs with a 9-8 record. The 28-year-old QB finished the season with 4,918 passing yards and 43 touchdowns with a 108.5 passer rating.
