San Francisco 49ers select Jake Moody in 3rd round of 2023 NFL Draft
The San Francisco 49ers selected Michigan kicker Jake Moody with the No. 99 overall pick in the third round in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Over the course of his Michigan career, Moody converted 148-of-148 extra points since 2018. He went 69-of-84 on his field goal attempts and scored a grand total of 355 points at Michigan.
As a member of the Class of 2018, Moody was not ranked, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He played his high school football at Northville (Mich.) High.
Moody might thrive in cold and frigid temperatures. Usually, kickers love warm and sunny weather, making it much easier to kick, especially when the ball can really take flight.
But it’s good to know Moody was read to rock in all sorts of conditions while at Michigan. The Wolverines defeated Illinois 19-17 last season on a game winning kick from Moody in November.
“It’s not the SEC. You’ve got to deal with some tough wind conditions. It’s freezing out there,” Moody said on kicking in November at Michigan.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein broke down the tape of Moody as a kicking prospect at the pro level.
The biggest thing for Moody? He was consistent for the Wolverines over the last two years, especially when the offense needed a little juice.
“Moody has just two seasons as a full-time kicker but he was a consistent performer who could pull the team to wins when the offense sputtered,” Zierlein wrote. “He’s very reliable on kicks shorter than 40 yards but has been less consistent from longer distances. He’s capable on kickoffs and strikes the ball with consistency, so he should get a shot and a chance to compete for a roster spot in camp.”
Moody can drill kickoffs as well. Not only was he a solid field goal kicker in college, he has quite the boot as well.
If he can improve longest distanced field goals, he could be very reliable in the pros.
