Philadelphia Eagles reveal injury designation for Jalen Hurts vs. Washington
Jalen Hurts will be back under center for the Philadelphia Eagles vs. the Washington Football team on Tuesday night, a game that was originally scheduled for Sunday but moved due to COVID-19 issues.
As Pro Football Talk notes, Hurts did not play in Week 13 because of an ankle injury and was limited in practice early last week, but he began working in full as the week went on and the two extra days to prepare for the game leave him on track to play. The Eagles did not give Hurts any injury designation for the game vs. Washington.
In his last outing vs. the New York Giants, Jalen Hurts struggled before suffering the fourth quarter injury.
“#Eagles HC Nick Sirianni said QB Jalen Hurts is dealing with a sore ankle and the team will provide more information later in the week,” PFF’s Ari Meirov said in a tweet. “Eagles have the Jets this week and then their bye.”
The former Alabama and Oklahoma star quarterback completed just 14-of-31 passes for 129 yards and three interceptions – with no touchdowns. For the season as a whole, Hurts has thrown for 2,435 yards and 13 touchdowns with eight interceptions.
Update on Jalen Hurts’ future with the Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles have been hesitant to commit to Jalen Hurts as their quarterback of the future. While the franchise used its second-round selection to bring him to Philadelphia, rumors have swirled that the Eagles aren’t convinced Hurts’ status as starter is final.
In his chance this season, he’s attempting to leave them with no other choice than to give him the keys to the car.
Hurts knows nothing is guaranteed in the game of football. At Alabama, he was pulled at halftime of the national championship. After biding his time and transferring to Oklahoma, Hurts became a Heisman contender.

The signal-caller has been continually overlooked throughout his career. Even in the NFL Draft, Hurts wasn’t mentioned among the top quarterbacks — Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert mentioned tiers above him.
Even when the Eagles drafted Hurts, they had Carson Wentz on their roster as their quarterback of the future. While that situation has since been resolved, Jalen Hurts has still be considered a placeholder for a different, future quarterback.
However, Hurts’ play in 2021 is making the Eagles think differently. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Hurts is playing his way into making the Eagles believe he’s the future.
“If Jalen Hurts keeps playing like this, sources say, the Eagles would get their best outcome possible. No search for a QB, because they would have one for the future that they are excited about,” wrote Rapoport. “And the ability to use their definite two and likely three first-round picks on other positions to build their team.”
Washington’s defense is banged up due to a variety of injury and COVID-19 issues, so this should be a prime opportunity for Hurts to prove himself in a critical game for the franchise.
