The Philadelphia Eagles and star quarterback Jalen Hurts are leaving the 2022 season, which ended in a Super Bowl LVII defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs, in the rearview mirror.
“Thinking about it holistically, last year is over,” Hurts said Thursday, via NFL.com. “Anything that we were able to do last year … nothing that’s been done prior will get us to where we want to be now.”
Hurts added there’s plenty the Eagles can learn from their journey this past season.
“There are a ton of experiences that we definitely documented and deposited in the bank to learn from — and we will learn from and have learned from — but it’s a day-by-day thing,” Hurts said. “It’s the truth. Every team has their own opportunity to do something special, and this is a whole entire new team. That’s something we’re all embracing. That’s something I’ve embraced.
“It takes a special type of discipline and work to achieve what you want to achieve. You have to completely reset that but also allow the things you’ve experienced to fuel you, fuel that fire, and grow.”
Hurts, 24, has started 34 games for the Eagles over the past three seasons, owning a 23-11 record. He has thrown for 7,906 yards and 44 touchdowns in his NFL career. Hurts has also rushed for 1,898 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Hurts, the Eagles’ second-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma, had the first Pro Bowl season of his career in 2022, emerging as one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. He ended the year with 3,701 passing yards with 22 touchdowns and six interceptions on 66.5% passing. The third-year quarterback added 760 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground.
Eagles HC banking on more improvement from Jalen Hurts in 2023
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni believes Hurts can be even better in 2023.
“Jalen may be the most coachable person I’ve ever been around in my life,” Sirianni said Thursday, via AL.com. “He’s just always looking to get better. Now, that’s our job as coaches to make sure we’re feeding him good information. He’s so coachable, and he just keeps getting better and he keeps getting better and he keeps getting better. And so, I do – I see another jump in everything that he’s done with the accuracy, with the decision-making.
“We’re doing seven-on-seven, so there is no rush, no pass rush except the guys that are walking at him with the bags. Peter [Gould], our equipment manager, is not going to make a sack on him in that particular case. But I do see his development continuing, and that’s what we talk about with Jalen all the time. I don’t know what his ceiling is because he just keeps getting better, and he’s going to continue to do that. And so I’ve seen that same jump. The speed in which he makes the decisions, the accuracy of his throws, he’s really had a good spring.”
