WATCH: Jalen Ramsey hit on Geno Smith leads to scuffle and wild finish in Seahawks-Rams
The Seattle Seahawks had a chance to win the game in the fourth quarter after a controversial hit by Jalen Ramsey on Geno Smith lead to an altercation on the field. After the play, receiver DK Metcalf took issue with Ramsey’s action and grabbed his facemask before bumping into him and sending Ramsey “falling” to the ground.

Ramsey’s hit was a tough call for officials to sort out on the field, as Smith was scrambling directly up the sideline and nearly out of bounds when Ramsey appeared to lower his shoulders. The hit completely knocked Smith to the field though, and while he was working to get back onto his feet his teammates took up his defense.
The wild moment led to an unnecessary roughness call against the Rams that helped push the Seahawks into field goal range — only for the game-winning kick to hit the upright and send the game into overtime because of the miss.
Seattle took care of business in overtime though, with Quandre Diggs intercepting a deep pass from the Rams to set up sudden death and finishing the game with another field goal attempt that was made by Jason Myers.

The win kept Seattle’s hopes of a playoff appearance alive as they now await the winner of the Sunday night matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions. With the win, Detroit has been eliminated from the playoffs but they still have a chance to play spoiler for their division rival in a huge way. The Packers need a win to earn the final wild card spot in the NFC, with a loss resulting in Seattle securing the final spot instead.
As the last domino to fall in the NFL playoff seeding, the team that advances between Seattle and Green Bay will play the No. 2 seed in the NFC — the San Francisco 49ers.
