Jamal Adams leaves MNF game after taking knee to the head vs Giants
The Seattle Seahawks got their Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams back for their Week 4 Monday night matchup in the Meadowlands against the New York Giants. Unfortunately, his return to action might be short-lived.
On the opening drive of the game, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones attempted to scramble for the first down. Adams made the first down-stopping tackle but struggled to get back up to his feet and needed help getting off the field. On the replay, the Seahawks safety took a knee to the head and appeared dazed afterward.
He is currently being evaluated in the Seattle medical tent.
Adams ruled out for the remainder of the game
Since heading to the medical tent, Adams has now headed to the locker room and has been ruled out of the rest of the game, playing in just 9 snaps in his season debut. After leaving the tent and heading to the locker room, the Seahawks star safety was visibly upset. Monday Night Football sideline reporter Lisa Salters provided an update on Adams while confirming his status for the game.
“Jamal Adams has now been ruled out for the rest of this game. We saw him take that hit to the side of his head by Daniel Jones’ knee. And he looked a little shaken up even as he was being helped off of the field. He went into the medical tent with the UNC, the unaffiliated neuro consultant. The Seahawks confirmed he was being evaluated for a concussion. But he was heated when he came out of the tent, had to be restrained, (and was) visibly upset with the UNC doctor even as he walked back to the locker room,” reported Salters.
Adams says he contemplated retirement after leg injury
In the days leading up to the game Adams, 27, spoke to the media Friday for the first time since tearing his left quadriceps tendon, and admitted he found himself in a “dark place” which led to thoughts about retiring from football.

“It was tough,” Adams said, via Brady Henderson of ESPN. “I thought about retiring. I thought about a lot of things. Is this going to be it for me? I didn’t know. But I knew eventually, after I got that MRI, I told myself I’m going to be back. I didn’t know when or how, but I was going to figure it out.”
Adams, who missed just two games over three seasons with the New York Jets, has missed 28-of-53 possible regular season games since the Seahawks acquired him via trade in 2020. The former All-Pro said that the multitude of injuries he’s suffered over the past three seasons took a toll on him mentally.
“I was having all types of thoughts running through my mind, but at the time when I did tear my knee, that was definitely something I was considering,” Adams said. “I was considering everything at the moment… Was in a dark place. Not on anything suicidal, but definitely in a lot of dark times as far as getting away from the game of football, getting away from people. At the time I wasn’t really talking to many people, wasn’t answering my phone. So you go through real life situations in this game of football.”
