JaMarcus Russell on Randy Moss trade: What does Tom Brady need him for
If JaMarcus Russell had Randy Moss on his Oakland Raiders squad in his rookie season in 2007, the former LSU quarterback’s career in the NFL may have gone very differently. Moss, the Raiders’ most targeted receiver in 2006, went to the New England Patriots in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick. In New England, Moss led the league in receiving touchdowns in 2007 and in 2009.
Lane Kiffin, the Raiders head coach at the time, thought it was a solid swap. Moss was coming off of the worst year of his career.
“We felt this was the best scenario for both the Raiders and Randy,” Lane Kiffin told The Associated Press via ESPN in 2007.
Joining Ryan Clark on The Pivot Podcast, JaMarcus Russell revealed his reaction to the move, which came a week before he went No. 1 overall to Oakland.
“They had me taking pictures and s*** with a Randy Moss jersey, thinking, ‘Boy, I’m finna go play with Randy Moss,’ this s*** finna be crazy,” Russell said. “They trade him. What the f*** does Tom Brady need Randy Moss for, really? What does he need with him, honestly?”
Although the Raiders’ move to trade Moss surprised Russell, the former Marshall star had expressed his frustration with the team in late 2006.
Russell went on to compare the Brady/Moss combo to combining Michael Jordan with another Michael Jordan.

“That’s what I thought was going to happen,” Russell said about potentially playing with Moss and winning championships.
Russell responds to ‘biggest NFL bust’ label
Many NFL fans and experts alike may agree that JaMarcus Russell is the biggest bust in league history.
Selected No. 1 overall by the Oakland Raiders in the 2007 NFL Draft, Russell was expected to lead the franchise into their next era of success. Instead, the quarterback was famously out of the league by the end of the 2009 season.
Russell shared a fiery response to his label as “the biggest bust in NFL history.”
“When you look at it that way, I say I must have been the best to be the biggest, right? I’ll say my s*** didn’t turn out how I would have wanted it to, or not how they expected it to. But if you’re going to call me a bust like they say, put the biggest on that m***********, man. If you’re going to say it, put the biggest on that m***********. But that s*** don’t bother me, man,” stated Russell. “Like, that s*** is not in my world. In my world, I’m a m***********, you feel me? That b******* don’t happen, it don’t apply on my s***. It don’t apply to none of my family s—. It don’t apply to nothing that we have going on.
“Man, they can bust all they want. Like I tell them, I bust out and went to college. I bust out and bust some scenes out my s***. So, like it’s cool bro. Like, I’ve never really been the guy that really talks s***, but when I do it bro. S***, my homie right there, like come on bro. You know what’s happening bro. Like, this s— go deep bro. I’m still here bro. I just ain’t in the Instagram, and all that s***. I ain’t got nothing to show and tell.”
