Ja'Marr Chase believes Joe Burrow is 'all right' following scary Bengals camp injury
Ja’Marr Chase has a positive outlook on Joe Burrow‘s injury. The wide receiver commented on the situation after the quarterback went down during Cincinnati Bengals‘ training camp.
Burrow suffered an apparent leg injury and had to be carted off the practice field on Thursday. Head coach Zac Taylor believes it’s a calf injury, but wouldn’t go into further detail.
“We always give each other that nod,” Chase said, per The Athletic. “He gave me a nod to say he’s all right. He’s a strong dude. I wasn’t really worried. I believe he’s all right.”
Maybe that comment will ease Bengals fans’ minds. Or maybe it won’t.
But Chase knows Burrow better than just about anyone, especially on the field. Maybe this is a good sign for the Bengals.
The Burrow-Chase combination dates back to LSU, where the two won a national championship at the end of the 2019 season. The two have found serious success in Cincinnati, as well.
Chase has accounted for over 1,000 receiving yards each of the past two seasons with the Bengals. During the team’s Super Bowl run in 2021, he hauled in 81 catches for 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns in the regular season.

Taylor referred to Burrow’s injury on Thursday as a “calf” injury. He did not provide further specifics, saying the team would wait to receive more details on the situation.

A timetable for a return is unknown. However, it seems unlikely that Burrow would participate in any preseason action for the Bengals, even if given the medical clear.
Former NFL doctor David Chao weighed in on Burrow’s potential injury.
“By distanced video, appears to be right calf muscle strain. Doesn’t appear to be Achilles. This is the non ACL side. Could miss significant training camp time and gastroc strains do linger,” Chao wrote on Twitter.
When Burrow went down and the cart came onto the practice field, concerns about the 2020 ACL injury surfaced immediately. The quarterback sustained a significant injury in his rookie season in Week 11, ending his first year after just 10 games.
Right now, it doesn’t sound like the injury is quite that significant, but still could be serious and keep the quarterback sidelined for some time.
Cincinnati’s first preseason game is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 11 against the Green Bay Packers. The Bengals open the 2023 NFL regular season on Sunday, Sept. 10 against the Cleveland Browns.
