Report: Jameis Winston, New York Giants finalizing 2-year contract

Jameis Winston is finalizing a two-year contract with the New York Giants, FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz reported. The deal would be worth $8 million, but could go up to $16 million with incentives.
Winston spent last season with the Cleveland Browns after signing a one-year deal with the franchise. He appeared in 12 games, including seven starts, and totaled 2,121 yards and 13 touchdowns, along with 12 interceptions.
After the news broke, Winston made it official. He took to social media to confirm he is heading to the Big Apple.
The Giants are an intriguing location for Winston considering other rumors in free agency. New York has been a reported option for Aaron Rodgers, who met with the Pittsburgh Steelers at their facility on Friday. Rodgers has yet to sign in free agency, and the Giants appear to be closing in on a different veteran quarterback option.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero added New York has not ruled out adding another quarterback through either free agency or the draft. The Giants hold the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

This year’s draft is shaping up to be an interesting one for multiple reasons. For starters, the Tennessee Titans hold the No. 1 pick, and although the sense is Cam Ward will likely go with the top selection, there are questions about whether Tennessee could trade out. The Browns have the No. 2 pick and are widely projected to take a quarterback.
That leaves the Giants at No. 3. They could be in play for either Ward or Shedeur Sanders if the board shakes out that way, and ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. projected the Giants to take Sanders in his latest mock draft.
“I get a little tick faster in terms of getting the ball out,” Kiper said on Get Up. “You can’t take sacks in the NFL. You’re behind the sticks and you’re in those 2nd and long, third and long, it’s over. You’re giving up drives, and you’re only getting so many drives in the National Football League, right? So, you’ve got to make them count. Shedeur’s got to improve in that area, but make throws when you’re being pressured, be able to manage a game, and not turn it over. He didn’t. The interception numbers were low. The accuracy was incredible. And the leadership he’ll bring.”
Jameis Winston isn’t the only veteran quarterback the Giants pursued. They also hosted Russell Wilson, who visited after taking a trip to Cleveland to meet with the Browns. Wilson spent last season with the Steelers, who are at the forefront of the Rodgers discussion as they take their next steps at quarterback.
