Former Alabama receiver Jameson Williams was one of the most electrifying receivers in college football last season. That’s why the Detroit Lions decided to trade up to select him at No. 12 overall in the first round 2022 NFL Draft. Blessed with earth scorching speed in the open field, there wasn’t a receiver in the 2022 class that can do the things Williams can do once he touches the football. He’s uber-confident in his abilities and said the Lions won this year’s draft, after selecting Aidan Hutchinson with the No. 2 overall selection and then picking him at the No. 12 spot in the first round.

“First, they just drafted the best player on offense and then you draft the best player on defense in the draft. That’s just the first round won right there. You won both sides of the ball. That’s what you drafted them for,” Williams said.

Then he was asked about how he plans to show he was the best player on offense in the 2022 NFL Draft. “It’s gonna show on the field when I get back from rehab and everything. Make sure everything is right. It’s gonna show on the field,” he said. Speaking of rehab, there was a recent video update that was posted showing Williams’ training and rehab that emerged online. There were recent reports that his ACL recovery is ahead of schedule and the video definitely adds credibility to those reports.

Detroit Lions’ fans simply can’t wait to watch the superstar suit up for them and who can blame them. His recovery process will be closely watched over the next few months. We’ll just have to wait and see how his recovery timeline progresses. When he does suit up in the NFL, it will be one of the most anticipated debuts of any player in the 2022 draft class.

Jameson Williams college football career

For the first two seasons of his college football career, Williams didn’t find the field often enough with the Ohio State Buckeyes. During his Ohio State career, the star wide receiver only caught 15 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns. However, his story was completely rewritten since joining the Crimson Tide.

In his lone season with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Williams caught 75 passes for 1,507 yards — adding 15 touchdowns. The speedster has gone from an afterthought to a future NFL Draft first-round selection.

During the season, his 1,507 receiving yards ranked fifth in the country. His 15 touchdown catches ranked second in the country. Last but not least, here’s a stat that demonstrates his highly explosive nature: Williams had more touchdowns of 70 yards, 60 yards, 50 yards, 40 yards, 30 yards, and 20 yards, than any other receiver in the FBS.

Not surprisingly, nearly every NFL Draft analyst in the country has unanimously raved about Williams’ potential at the NFL level. ESPN’s Todd McShay and Mel Kiper have both raved about the uber-talented receiver in the past few months and that praise is well warranted. Blessed with 4.3 speed, there was simply not another receiver in the 2022 NFL Draft that can do the things in the open field that Williams can.
