Jameson Williams electrified Alabama Crimson Tide fans during his time in Tuscaloosa and every indication points to him becoming the next great wide receiver to take his talents from Nick Saban’s program and thrive in the NFL.

Known best for his speed, Williams spoke to reporters in Indianapolis during this week’s NFL Combine and wasn’t shy about the trait that separates him from other gifted prospects.

While the dynamic pass catcher couldn’t participate in drills as he continues to heal from a torn ACL, his confidence was on full display in Indy.

“I just know nobody could run with me,” the former Tide star said in Indy. “I don’t know my 40 time, I just know nobody could run with me. Just say whatever the fastest 40 time is here….I’m faster.”

Jameson Williams closed out the season with 79 receptions for 1,572 yards, 15 touchdowns and averaged just under 20 yards per grab. A simple Twitter search will showcase play after play and nearly every caption references his speed.

Those are two of the most talented defensive backs in the country on one of the historically great defenses from Georgia last season, and they couldn’t even stay close to the Crimson Tide burner.

Many SEC fans outside of Tuscaloosa may view Williams’ comments as an overly cocky attempt to ensure teams understand he will be the same player, if not better, once fully healed from the torn ACL he suffered just six weeks ago in the national title game.

At 6-foot-2, 189 pounds, Jameson Williams isn’t solely a deep threat that earns his paycheck by torching defenses as his bread and butter. He’s not DeSean Jackson and has a versatile skillset that will translate instantly to the next level as long as his rehab stays on track.

In today’s NFL, a player coming off a torn ACL may have some impact on where he is drafted, but according to nearly every top draft expert, Williams — who was projected as a top ten talent — is still expected to come off the board in the first round and it would be justified to select him anywhere on that opening night.

Mel Kiper on Jameson Williams, unique skillset: ‘You certainly want that on your football team.’

One staunch believer in Jameson Williams is ESPN’s NFL Draft Guru Mel Kiper. Throughout the pre-draft process, Kiper has been raving about what an incredible value the electrifying playmaker is in this year’s draft.

“You’re betting on a kid that had he stayed healthy, I think Alabama wins that game against Georgia,” Kiper said. “It was a shame he got hurt. Obviously from Alabama’s standpoint they move on to win a national title and for Jameson he would have been a guaranteed top 10 pick. He took the top off the defense every week. And now he falls into the late first round. You talk about being a bargain. Yeah, I would wait it out for Jameson Williams. That kind of speed. That electricity. The hands. The attitude. The warrior mentality he has.

“You certainly want that on your football team. Yeah, I would wait it out for a guy who would have been a top 10 pick, if I’m in the late first round and he’s still on the board.”

As you can see, Mel Kiper believes Jameson Williams could be the biggest steal of the 2022 NFL Draft. After watching the star wide receiver blossom at Alabama, it’s tough to bet against his potential.
