Jason Garrett on Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb: 'The best quarterback-receiver combination in the NFL'
Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett had stunning praise for Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb after their Week 18 win. The coach-turned-NBC studio analyst called the Cowboys duo the “best quarterback-receiver combination” in the entire league on Sunday night following the team’s 38-10 victory over Washington.
“What a combination and what a year for these guys,” Garrett said, via Jon Machota. “The best quarterback-receiver combination in the NFL showed up big-time today in Washington. … The Cowboys are ready for the playoffs.”
Prescott and Lamb both notched their names at the top of the NFL’s stat sheets for the 2023 season at FedEx Field. For the quarterback, with his four-touchdown night against the Commanders, he finished the season with the most touchdown passes (36). He had four more touchdown passes than the runner-up, Packers QB Jordan Love. Prescott and Love will face off with their respective teams on Sunday afternoon in the Wild Card round.
Though the Cowboys QB added an interception to his stats in Week 18 due to a tipped pass, he ended the year with six fewer than last season. His nine interceptions are the fourth-fewest in his eight-year career. Prescott also finished with a career-high in completion percentage this season with a 69.5% rating. He was second in the league in total passing yards (4,516) and second in completion percentage.
CeeDee Lamb finishes 2023 as NFL’s top receiver in catches
As expected, CeeDee Lamb was Dak Prescott’s favorite target for the third year running. His 181 targets marked a career-high and his 135 receptions led the league as well. Lamb finished the year with 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns. Although other Cowboys receivers have posted more than 12 touchdowns in a season, the Sooners alum is the first to surpass the 1,700-yard mark. The former first-round pick finished just 50 yards behind the league’s top receiver in yards this year – Tyreek Hill.

Lamb took to social media on Sunday night to celebrate his historic season and the Cowboys’ NFC East title. Responding to Dez Bryant‘s post which referenced comments Richard Sherman made about the wideout being “overrated” five games into the season, the Cowboys star wrote: “No disrespect to bro at all.. But 5 games into the szn is crazy, like we ain’t got 12 more.. NFC (East) champs LUV”
Sherman walked back his comments on Lamb in December as the wide receiver’s season really opened up. “He’s making me a believer, baby,” the former All-Pro said at the time. It seems like Lamb was waiting for the perfect moment to respond to the former Seahawks star.
Now, the Cowboys prepare to host the Green Bay Packers for an afternoon matchup next Sunday. Dallas, undefeated at home over the last 16 games, welcomes the Packers to AT&T Stadium after Green Bay beat the Bears to close out the year.
