While Travis Kelce and his Kansas City Chiefs might still be playing this NFL season, it’s been his older brother Jason Kelce taking the headlines. There was of course his antics at the Chiefs divisional round game, and also his viral moment with an employee at his nearby McDonald’s.

Though the elder Kelce did want to clarify a few details about the interaction between himself and Danielle Bonham, a staple at his nearby McDonald’s. He discussed the moment at length on the brothers’ podcast, “New Heights.”

“I just went to McDonald’s like I usually do and Danielle had a jersey and I was like, ‘Of course I’ll sign your jersey, Danielle.’ It got miscommunicated,” Jason said. “… That’s not what happened. I gotta clear that up: That’s not what happened. I don’t just have signed jerseys in the back of my car. I think I might start doing this after seeing the joy on Danielle’s face. This might be something that I’ll try to institute in the future. The first time I ever pulled up to the McDonald’s and Danielle was behind the counter, she was crying profusely when she was taking my order. She is a huge birds fans.”

Beyond lending his signature to Bonham’s Kelly green No. 62 jersey, Jason shared that Bonham had written him a few letters and sent a few cards. And evidently the relationship between Kelce and the crew at the Broomall McDonald’s is strong enough that he outed a dark truth of that morning: They got his order mixed up.

Jason already confirmed on social media that his go-to order is two sausage, egg and cheese McMuffins with a large black coffee — iced or hot depending on how fast he is planning to drink it. It’s a well known routine for him and the McDonald’s staff, with Bonham just checking whether Jason wants the coffee hot or iced.

On that morning, he said iced. But when he took a sip after getting his drink, he quickly realized the sweet, nectary liquid wasn’t black coffee, but Coca-Cola.

“Danielle checked with me, because she knows — she knows my order,” Jason said. “She said, ‘Do you want iced or hot coffee today?’ And I said, ‘I will take hot coffee.’ And I get up to the window after Danielle, where they give you your food and they hand me what I think is an iced coffee, because I’m like ‘OK, they must’ve — whatever, they got it.’ I’ll drink an iced black coffee, I’m not going to —”

Travis interjected.

“Ain’t going to ruin my morning,” he said.

Jason continued his story.

“And I take a drink, a sip of it, and it’s the best damn coffee I’ve ever tasted in my life,” Jason said. “It’s so good, it takes me a second to realize this isn’t coffee. This is sugar, high fructose corn syrup Coca-Cola and it was delicious. Do you know how excited my brain got to expect the hard bitterness of coffee and to be shocked with just nothing but pure sugar into my head?”

But there was one more critical matter at hand: Travis couldn’t fathom that Jason doesn’t order a hash brown on his trips to McDonald’s, too.

“No hash brown?” Travis asked.

Jason shared he doesn’t dislike them, but isn’t getting the bang for his buck, he feels.

“Dude, I don’t go hash brown,” Jason said. “Hash browns are delicious.”

Travis, in disbelief, asked his brother what was wrong with him, tossing in an expletive for good measure.

So while hash browns might not be on the menu at McDonald’s for Jason Kelce, signing the jersey of a diehard fan and one of his favorite employees most certainly will.
