Jason Peters signs with the Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears have agreed to sign former All-Pro tackle Jason Peters. The former undrafted rookie free agent-turned-potential Hall of Famer has been brought on board to help the Bears who are currently struggling with injuries on the offensive line.
Peters has spent a whopping 17 years in the NFL. All of them with the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles.
The Bears are currently dealing with three injuries on their offensive line.
Both rookie Kevin Jenkins and veteran James Daniel went down with injuries during camp. Germain Ifedi has been on the team’s physically unable to perform list since late July. Leaving the team with just nine healthy offensive linemen prior to the signing of Peters.
Peters as of late
Peter struggled in his last season with the Philadelphia Eagles. At times he struggled to defend the edge and could not keep up with today’s pass rushers. However, he was struggling with a toe injury for the majority of the season. In December, Peters elected to have season-ending surgery on that toe. At that time, Peters was not in his usual position of tackle but was playing at right guard.
In an interview over the spring, Peters said he believes he still has something “left in the tank.” And with him signing with the Bears, he will have an opportunity to prove just that. After taking comments on the signing of Peters head coach Matt Nagy opened up his potential to start.

“For us to bring him in, he knows there’s a great competition. We are trying to do everything we can to provide protection and have a great run game,” said Nagy. “I think he’s coming in here to compete to be the starting left tackle. It’s open man. It’s a competition.”
What he has to offer
Peters has been selected to nine Pro Bowls and two All-Pro teams in his career. In 2017, he had his best year in the NFL. Peters had only one penalty on the year for ten yards and allowed just 1.5 sacks. In the following year, he helped the Philadelphia Eagles bring home the Lombardi Trophy. Although the Eagles have three NFL championships, that was their first-ever Super Bowl win.
With all Peters has done in the NFL, even if he is beaten out for a starting position at guard or tackle, the Bears could keep him on the roster for his veteran leadership. Peters is not the only member from the Eagles Super Bowl-winning roster with the Bears. They also have Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles battling rookie Justin Fields for the starting job.
