After he left the practice field early on Wednesday, Chiefs tackle Jawaan Taylor‘s injury situation is now more clear. According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Taylor took a cart off the field at training camp due to a shoulder injury. However, at this point, it’s not setting off alarm bells for the Kansas City Chiefs.

“Chiefs OT Jawaan Taylor suffered a shoulder injury at today’s practice,” Schefter shared. “One source said the team is ‘not overly concerned at this time.'”

Taylor rode a cart off the field while seated in the front, which suggested he didn’t sustain a lower-body injury. He didn’t participate in one-on-one drills before leaving the field. The news of a shoulder injury, regardless of severity, is not good for the Chiefs who have another preseason game on Saturday against the Lions. They lost their first preseason game against the Jaguars, 26-13.

Taylor, originally a second-round draft pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars out of Florida, is in his second year with the Kansas City Chiefs. Last March, he signed a massive four-year deal with Kansas City for $80 million. It was the biggest deal of his career yet, following his rookie contract that was for four years, $7.82 million.

Since arriving in Kansas City, Taylor has secured his role as the team’s starting right tackle. On the opposite side of the line, there’s competition. Rookie tackle Kingsley Suamataia is vying to take over the team’s open starting job at left tackle, fending off Wanya Morris. With Taylor out at practice, Lucas Niang filled in at right tackle.

Chiefs still waiting on word regarding Rashee Rice’s potential suspension

As the regular season news, the Kansas City Chiefs are still waiting for word on whether the NFL will punish second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice following his offseason troubles. Andy Reid gave a report on the latest as the Kansas City Chiefs reported to training camp earlier this month.

While speaking to reporters, the Chiefs head coach was asked if he heard anything about Rice possibly being suspended by the NFL.

“I haven’t heard anything at this point,” Reid said. The offseason hasn’t been a stellar for Rice. The young wide receiver is facing eight charges related to a multi-car accident in March and was reportedly also a suspect in an assault that occurred at a Dallas nightclub in May.

Last month, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported that Rice is facing a multi-game suspension from the NFL.

“This is a lengthy legal process, which means he could start the season, actually play games or finish the whole year, because the league likes to see the full scope of things before they make a decision on how many games a player might face,” Fowler said. “We saw that with Alvin Kamara a couple of years ago when he had his battery charges. He played the whole year then was suspended for the next year. So that is a possibility that the Chiefs are bracing for here, they just don’t know.”
