Jax Ulbrich, son of Falcons DC Jeff Ulbrich, issues apology to Shedeur Sanders for viral prank call

Jax Ulbrich, the son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, released a statement on social media apologizing for prank calling Shedeur Sanders during Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft on Friday. Jax Ulbrich called the Colorado quarterback and pretended to be New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis.
Video was released of Sanders being faked out at a potential selection, told he would have to “wait a little longer.” Jax Ulbrich said his actions were “inexcusable.”
“On Friday night I made a tremendous mistake,” he wrote on Instagram. “Shedeur, what I did was completely inexcusable, embarrassing, and shameful. I’m so sorry I took away from your moment, it was selfish and childish. I could never imagine getting ready to celebrate one of the greatest moments of your life and I made a terrible mistake and messed with that moment. Thank you for accepting my call earlier today, I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.”
Jax Ulbrich’s public apology comes after an NFL official told Adam Schefter of ESPN that the league would be looking into how Sanders’ private number was leaked and then used for the prank call. Sanders said that Boost Mobile sent him a specific phone for the draft and the number was only provided to NFL teams.

The Falcons said in a statement that Jax Ulbrich came across the number off an open iPad while visiting his parent’s home. He wrote down the number to later conduct the prank call.

“The Atlanta Falcons do not condone this behavior and send our sincere apologies to Shedeur Sanders and his family, who we have been in contact with to apologize to, as well as facilitate an apology directly from Jax to the Sanders family,” the statement read.
The prank call came as the Saints were about to make their second-round selection. At the time, two quarterbacks had come off the board: Miami‘s Cam Ward and Ole Miss‘s Jaxson Dart. New Orleans did take a quarterback, but it wasn’t Sanders. Instead, they opted for Louisville‘s Tyler Shough.
Sanders, once thought to be a potential first round pick, fell to the fifth round. The Cleveland Browns traded up to select him with the No. 144 overall pick, bringing an end to his stunning free-fall. Sanders addressed the prank call during his introductory press conference.
“It didn’t really have an impact on me because it was just like, I mean, okay, like I don’t feed into negativity or I don’t feed into that stuff,” Sanders said. “You’ve seen [it on the] YouTube video. My reaction to it, I don’t — it is what it is. I think of course it is childish. Of course, I feel like it was a childish act, but everybody does childish things here and there.”
