Jayden Daniels injury: Adam Schefter reveals severity of Commanders QB's injury, Week 8 status
Adam Schefter joined The Pat McAfee Show on Monday to provide an update on Jayden Daniels after the Washington Commanders quarterback suffered an injury to his ribs in Week 7 against the Carolina Panthers.
According to Schefter, the Commanders don’t believe the injury is too severe, and the quarterback has a shot to play in Week 8 against the Chicago Bears. If he can’t go, backup Marcus Mariota will fill in for Daniels once again.
“As of about an hour ago, the people in the organization didn’t know yet, how he was doing, and still awaiting word,” Schefter stated. “So, they were glad that his mother tweeted out that he was fine, when they’re still waiting to hear how he’s actually doing. They don’t know yet, whether or not he’ll be able to go on Sunday.
“… I don’t think it’s severe, but they don’t know yet whether he’s going to be able to play though this week. They’re still waiting to hear that right now. Again, they’ve got to put together a game-plan here. Don’t know whether or not you’ll have him. Marcus Mariota would start if Jayden Daniels can’t. I just think it’s up in the air right now, that’s the fairest way to say it.”

Even if Daniels was healthy enough to return to the game against Carolina, the Commanders didn’t need him as they beat the Panthers 40-7. The aforementioned Mariota took over for Daniels and threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns. With the win, the Commanders are 5-2 and are in first place in the NFC East.
Daniels has been a big reason the Commanders have a chance to win their first division title since 2020. The former LSU Tigers quarterback has completed 75.3 percent of his passes for 1,404 yards six touchdowns and two interceptions in his first six games this year. Daniels has also been strong in the running game, tallying 322 rushing yards and four touchdowns (not including totals from the Panthers game).
