Jayden Daniels injury update: Washington Commanders decide on QB's status for Sunday vs. Bears
Many NFL fans were highly anticipating a possible matchup between rookie quarterbacks Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels on Sunday. We’ll have to see if Daniels actually plays. As of right now, his status seems up in the air. On ESPN’s NFL Live on Friday evening, they relayed the information that Daniels is officially listed as questionable heading into the Commanders-Bears matchup. He’s been dealing with a rib injury that he suffered against the Carolina Panthers.
Daniels participated in team drills on Friday, before working on core strength and conditioning. Following practice, Daniels spoke about how he felt with the media. “I feel good. Treatment all of that. Trying to get that right. Give myself a chance to go out there confident to play. Ultimately, the trainers make the decision to let me play. If they feel confident, too.” He also continued, “I want to play, but it’s not my decision.”
More on Jayden Daniels and his rib injury
Daniels was injured this past weekend during Washington’s win over the Panthers. He missed most of the game and was replaced by Marcus Mariota.
If Daniels is unable to go on Sunday, it would be disappointing as everyone was looking forward to a Caleb Williams vs. Jayden Daniels matchup. The two rookies and former Heisman Trophy winners have been excellent so far this season.
Adam Schefter hinted earlier this week that the former LSU star’s status for the Bears game was in serious jeopardy.

“The week is not off to a good start,” Adam Schefter said Thursday morning on SportsCenter. “Jayden Daniels did not practice [Wednesday] and the head coach, Dan Quinn, has already said that Jayden Daniels is week-to-week, which is really code for unlikely to play this upcoming week.”
After getting knocked out of the game against Carolina with an apparent rib injury, he needed X-rays and was seen in street clothes later in the game. Later, his mother posted to social media that initial tests showed Daniels would be fine. Still, he didn’t return to that game.
While Schefter hinted that it was unlikely Daniels would be available earlier this week, perhaps he is progressing better than expected and does have a legitimate shot to suit up.
Through seven games this season, the former LSU star has completed 75.6 percent of his passes for 1,410 yards and six touchdowns to only two interceptions. He’s also a dual threat, rushing for 372 yards and four touchdowns.
