Jayden Daniels’ Rookie of the Year odds shift after debut vs. Buccaneers
Jayden Daniels is making a strong case to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award after playing his first game with the Washington Commanders. Per SportsBettingDime, Daniels’ Rookie of the Year odds have moved from +600 to +300. This comes after the former LSU quarterback recorded 184 passing yards, 88 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in the Commanders’ 37-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Daniels is competing for the award against quarterback Caleb Williams of the Chicago Bears, quarterback Bo Nix of the Denver Broncos and wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. of the Arizona Cardinals, among others. In William’s first game, he threw for just 93 yards and zero touchdowns in the Bears’ win over the Tennessee Titans. Nix didn’t fare any better, throwing for 138 yards and two interceptions in the Broncos’ loss to the Seattle Seahawks in his NFL debut on Sunday. Harrison just had one catch for four yards in his debut with the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday in a game where the team lost to the Buffalo Bills.

If Daniels continues to have games like he did on Sunday, the Commanders should see more wins than losses going forward. The team has high expectations for the 23-year-old since he was selected No. 2 overall in this year’s draft. Before the season opener, Daniels talked about his mindset heading into his first NFL start.

Jayden Daniels wanted to just ‘play football’ in debut
“I mean, it’s kind of just go out there and just play football. Obviously, I’m [going to] embrace the moment, take it in,” Daniels said during a press conference on Wednesday, per Commanders.com. “I’m officially in my first NFL game, but once that ball is kicked out, none of that matters. So, gotta focus on trying to execute at a high level and go out there and try to help the team win.”
Daniels also talked about not letting his emotions change the way he plays. “It is really the same,” he said. “Day by day, be where my feet are. Not really focused on Sunday. I got to get through Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and then it’ll be game day.”
