Jayden Daniels is officially on the board in the NFL.

Daniels scored his first touchdown as a pro this afternoon with a rushing score in the Commanders’ opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That was worth a dance for him alongside Noah Brown and a celebration with his offensive linemen

Through three quarters of his debut, Daniels has completed 10-17 (58.8%) when passing for 106 yards. He’s also the leading rusher for Washington with 11 carries for 72 yards and now this score.

The touchdown cut the 16-point lead for Tampa Bay down to nine going into the fourth quarter. That makes it as impactful as it is monumental for him a young player in the league and the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

If all goes well, this will be the first of many touchdowns, whether passing or rushing, for the quarterback of the future in the nation’s capital.

Commanders sign Sam Hartman from practice squad, place Marcus Mariota on IR

The Washington Commanders have placed Marcus Mariota on the injured reserve list. They have also signed Sam Hartman from the practice squad.

Mariota has been dealing with an upper-body injury and missed his second straight practice on Friday. That gives Hartman a chance to suit up for Washington on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Last month, Hartman sustained a shoulder injury ahead of Washington’s second preseason game against the Miami Dolphins on Aug. 17. The Commanders waived him on Aug. 27 and they subsequently re-signed him to the team’s practice squad the following day.

Both will be backing up their new starter in Jayden Daniels. The Commanders drafted with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft back in April. The reigning Heisman winner now has high expectations to now meet out college, specifically last season at LSU

Now, following this move, Hartman will be there behind him if his number is called.

Elsewhere on the roster, the Commanders also elevated LB Nick Bellor and DT Sheldon Day alongside Hartman from the practice squad.
