College football predictions: JD PicKell reveals his upset alerts for Week 2
Week 2 of the college football season has some big shoes to fill following an exciting Week 1 of action to kick off the year. Highlighted by several elite performances from teams and standout individual performances from players as well.
One of the best parts of the game is upset victories, which weren’t seen as much in Week 1 of the season. But Week 2 definitely has some potential spots for underdogs to a make a statement and secure a signature win early in the season.
On3’s JD PicKell recently tabbed three games to keep an eye on for potential upsets this week on The Hard Count. Matchups where home favorites may need to play their best football if they want to avoid being on the wrong end of an upset loss.
Arkansas (+7.5) at Oklahoma State
The Razorbacks take a trip to Stillwater to take on Oklahoma State in a hostile road atmosphere. But the dual-threat ability of 6-foot-6 quarterback Taylen Green paired with the mentality of Arkansas this season has PicKell putting the Cowboys on upset watch.

“Any time you have a mobile quarterback and you pair that with a team that quite frankly, now going into this season under Sam Pittman, there were a lot of folks wondering if Sam Pitman would even be the head coach at Arkansas at this point,” PicKell said. “I think they have a little bit of a YOLO mentality, that’s dangerous.”

Appalachian State (+17) at Clemson
Clemson will look to bounce back from a brutal Week 1 loss to Georgia at home against Appalachian State on Saturday. A Group of Five program that’s been notorious for slaying giants with wins over Texas A&M, North Carolina, and South Carolina in the past five seasons. A stretch where the Mountaineers have also never lost by more than one score to a Power Four opponent.
“This is the game I would actually take App State with the 17 points, they go to Clemson and y’all, this one to me just screams from the mountaintops keep an eye on this one. I don’t know if App State pulls out the upset outright … It would be very App State-ish of them to make this brutal for Clemson,” PicKell said.
South Carolina (+10.5) at Kentucky
Rounding out PicKell’s list of potential upsets is the first SEC matchup of the year between the Gamecocks and Wildcats. A game that he sees South Carolina potentially winning for a third straight year if true freshman Dylan Stewart can replicate his dominance for a second straight week.
“If he gets going a little bit, maybe he wreaks havoc, get’s a little strip sack action. LaNorris Sellers has the ground game going with Rocket Sanders, they stay on schedule. That could be a recipe now where South Carolina makes it 3-0 the last three years against Kentucky,” Pickell said. “Also worth noting Kentucky did not play four quarters last week … literally Kentucky had their game called early last week.”
