Jeff Saturday puts Jerry Jones on blast as Deion Sanders rumors heat up in Cowboys coaching search
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is reportedly having conversations with Colorado head coach and former Cowboys star Deion Sanders about taking over as the head coach of the Cowboys. ESPN analyst Jeff Saturday spoke on Get Up Tuesday morning about why Deion Sanders should think long and hard before accepting the Cowboys job, if it is offered.
Saturday warned Sanders that Jerry Jones is an owner who wants control over everything, and he isn’t sure Deion Sanders would enjoy working for him.
“Jerry Jones has not changed since he fired Jimmy Johnson, and you’re expecting him to change. He’s not gonna change,” Jeff Saturday said. “If you’re Deion Sanders, going to that environment, he’s not changing. The dude’s 82 years old and he still talks about, ‘It’s my team.'”
The Cowboys moved on from Mike McCarthy on Monday, and word broke Monday evening that there is mutual interest between the Cowboys and Deion Sanders.
However, Saturday feels that whoever is the head coach of the Cowboys will be unable to win big as long as Jerry Jones is there and in charge.
“He wants to win his way. And unfortunately his way is not going to win,” Saturday said. “It’s going to be good, it’s going to be OK. It’s going to be whatever. It’s going to be the ebbs and flows.”

To Saturday’s point, the Cowboys last won a Super Bowl in 1995. They have not reached the NFC Championship Game since then.
Saturday added that Deion Sanders has a good thing going at Colorado right now. He doesn’t believe that Sanders should leave and go to a situation where Jerry Jones will hold all of the power.
“Until he steps aside and allows somebody to take full control – that means the roster, too. That’s a big deal if you’re Deion Sanders, leaving Colorado, where you have all the control, to go to where you have no control,” Saturday said. “And the guy’s looking around, who does the first presser after every game. And he’s the voice of the team. That’s a tough pill to swallow if you’re Deion Sanders.”
Deion Sanders and Jerry Jones have had a close relationship for a long time, and it’s no surprise that Sanders is listening to what he has to say. It will be interesting to see if Jones ultimately offers Sanders the job, and if he does, what Sanders chooses to do.
